“Vaca Palms” draws its inspiration from a dock area on Vaca Key near Marathon, Florida—a place that feels like a quiet escape. The building in the painting is inspired by the vibrant architecture of South Beach, while the water reflects the crystal-clear, turquoise beauty of the beaches in Dry Tortugas National Park, a two-hour boat ride into the Caribbean. I continued my Uncovered series tradition by leaving a section of the birch panel bare, using its natural texture to represent the soft, sandy beach. Through the vibrant colors and shapes, I aimed to capture the unique, laid-back vibe of South Florida—the warmth, the light, and the endless summer feeling.
