“One Sky, Two New Mexicos” is inspired by the many journeys my wife and I have taken to Santa Fe—to savor its art, culture, and of course, its unforgettable green chile. At the heart of the painting stands an adobe building, drawn from a photograph I captured two decades ago. Within the building is the timeless northern New Mexico countryside. This piece reflects the delicate balance between the man-made and the natural, all unfolding beneath one expansive, ever-present sky.  I especially had fun using the unpainted birch panel as the sunlit parts of the adobe structure.  The was the inspiration and start of my Uncovered series.

In my Uncovered series, I intentionally leave parts of the birch panel exposed—it’s not just a design choice, but a metaphor. To me, it represents the courage it takes to be open and honest about what we’re going through. Life isn’t always easy, and sometimes showing our raw, unpolished selves can feel vulnerable. But I believe that in those exposed places, we find connection, understanding, and healing. When we allow ourselves to be seen by those we trust, we create space for shared stories, support, and growth.
